Brooklyn, NY - Any family who has sent a child off to school knows how expensive it can be. Paper, pens, books, notebooks, backpacks, new clothes ... the list seems to be never-ending. This year, Loveys Accessories Boutique owner Tionna Smalls (pictured on left), who starred in Vh1’s What Chilli Wants, and fellow Brooklyn business owners are coming together to lend a helping hand by giving away school supplies on September 6, 2011 in front of the boutique, which is located at 377 Marcus Garvey Blvd.
The event will begin at 4pm. School supplies will be given out first come, first served to parents with one supply per child. Families will also be able to enjoy free refreshments that will be served.
“Our goal is to give away school supplies to at least 100 children in the Brooklyn area. Next year we hope to triple that,” says Smalls.
Smalls opened her boutique in December 2010 and hopes that she and her business affiliates can make a difference for low-income children in the area. Other businesses that are participating in the school supply giveaway are Loveys’ neighbors, Son’s Barbershop and 430 Inkz Tattoo Parlor. Other businesses are Boss Chick Sorority, Black Champagne Entertainment, Vantage Executive Group, INC., and Nevafull Entertainment. Many people in the Bedford Stuyvesant community contributed as well. Businesses and individuals who would like to donate for the drive, please bring items by September 4.
