On August 13, 2011, comedian, radio personality, best-selling author, Family Feud television host and philanthropist Steve Harvey hosted another sold-out year of the 9th Annual Ford Hoodie Awards at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, NV. Celebrities including Anthony Hamilton, Antonia “Toya” Carter Wright, Carla Ferrell (Steve Harvey Morning Show), Christopher Massey, Ed Gordon, George Wallace, Hill Harper, Jill Scott, Kem, Kevin Hart, Kirk Franklin, Kyle Massey, Lavell Crawford, Marvin Sapp, Nephew Tommy (Steve Harvey Morning Show), Sheryl Underwood, Shirley Strawberry (Steve Harvey Morning Show), Sommore, Tamara Tunie, Terrence J, Tichina Arnold, Tisha Campbell-Martin, Toccara, Tye Tribbett and others turned out in fine fashion as they joined Harvey and presenting sponsor, Ford, to entertain and honor the everyday men and women who impact and uplift their communities with service and excellence.
Nominees at the 2011 Ford Hoodie Awards were recognized for their achievements in the categories of Best High School, Best High School Teacher, Best Church, Best Church Choir, Best Soul Food, Best Barbecue, Best Car Wash/Detail Shop, Best Beauty Salon, Best Nail Salon, Best Barber Shop and Best Community Leader, at this one-of-a-kind awards show conceived by Harvey and producing partner Rushion McDonald in 2001.
Highlights of this year’s Ford Hoodie Awards included unforgettable performances from Grammy® Award winner Jill Scott, R&B crooner Kem and Gospel music superstar Kirk Franklin, as well as the surprise presentation from Ford of a 2011 Ford Explorer to Best Community Leader award winner Tony Lewis, Jr of Washington, DC.
