African American Luminaries Among Guests at Carnegie Hall Gala Fundraiser

Gala benefit raised nearly $3.4 million to support Carnegie Hall’s artistic and education programming

NEW YORK, NY – On October 2, 2013, Carnegie Hall launched its 2013–2014 season with a gala dinner in the Waldorf Astoria’s Grand Ballroom raising nearly $3.4 million in support of Carnegie Hall’s artistic and education programming.  The gala dinner, which was attended by more than 600 guests, was chaired by Annette and Oscar de la Renta and co-chaired by Mercedes T. Bass, Diane von Furstenberg and Barry Diller, Marie-Josée and Henry Kravis, Beatrice Santo Domingo, and Ann Ziff.  For the tenth consecutive season, PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP was the Opening Night Gala lead sponsor.

Carnegie Hall’s season-opening concert was scheduled to begin that evening in Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage with The Philadelphia Orchestra featuring vocalist/double bassist Esperanza Spalding, but was cancelled due to a strike by Carnegie Hall’s stagehands.
